Lismore has a flourishing arts scene, and the city houses a variety of local galleries and theatres that showcase the best pieces and performers that this colourful region has to offer.
 
As the eclectic heart of the Northern Rivers is bordered by lush green hills and rainforests, it’s not hard for Lismore’s many local artists to stay inspired.

NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts)
NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts) is Lismore’s leading theatre company. Based in Lismore City Hall complete with a fully upgraded auditorium, covered outdoor areas and a licensed bar with a pop-up diner, the company presents national touring acts as well as local productions. On a trip to NORPA, you’ll discover great theatre as well as entertaining acts from comedians and musicians.

Lismore Regional Gallery
As the fifth oldest regional gallery in New South Wales, Lismore Regional Gallery is a fantastic way to see some of the best local art that the Northern Rivers has on offer. The gallery opened in 1953 and has been exhibiting pieces from well-known Australian artists and local artists ever since, and features permanent collections from prominent Australian artists such as Margaret Olley, Lloyd Rees, Albert Naamatjira and Thea Proctor, in addition to works from local artists Jan Davis, Bronwyn Bancroft, Angus McDonald and many more. Exhibitions and events are also held at the gallery, and Palate at the Gallery is the in-house café popular with locals all over town.

Star Court Theatre
Open since 1921, this iconic Lismore venue is filled with avant-garde flair. The Star Court Theatre regularly screens classic and art house films, as well as holding live events and concerts. Before and after your screening, be charmed by Salon Verde, Star Court Theatre’s in-house cinema bar and lounge inspired by Édouard Manet’s classic painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergère. If you’re up for a spot of shopping beforehand, you’ll find the theatre amongst an array of quaint boutique shops in Star Court Arcade on Molesworth Street.

The Back Alley Gallery
The Back Alley Gallery in Lismore is an open-air gallery held permanently on the walls of Eggins Lane. Stroll down the laneway to see amazing large-scale murals, installations, graffiti art and more from a mix of local, national and international street artists. Nestled between the busy streets of inner city Lismore, this unique experience is part of an ongoing initiative to transform the laneways of the city with vibrant artwork. While you’re there, pop into one of the many fantastic surrounding cafes.

Lismore Theatre Company
For a spot of theatre with good old-fashioned charm, be sure to pick up tickets to one of the local productions by Lismore Theatre Company. Based in Rochdale Theatre in Goonellabah in a small country hall, this theatre company puts on fantastic smaller-scale productions with local performers. Keep an eye on their website and Facebook for details on upcoming plays and performances.
